Next week I’ll be going down to Montalvo to teach a week of poetry + gardening for kids as part of Montalvo’s Summer Camps program. I taught this class last summer too and I was constantly moved by the students’ poems and drawings. Below are some photos from last year’s camp.
I’m especially fond of this drawing by Amelia Sicat of her bear in the formal paths of the Italianate Garden.
She also wrote this wonderful Whitmanesque poem, where her eloquent arrows are again at work:

Children have a great capacity for concentration and silence. One of the things I most enjoyed about this week was seeing the intensity of their focus when we went out on expeditions through the gardens.
